If
you’ve made the decision to get fit or maintain a good level of health, we have
some good news for you: It’s extremely easy to boost your health in East
Sussex. With the benefit of the beautiful South Downs for outdoor exercise and
a whole host of state-of-the-art leisure facilities, there are more than enough
ways for you to find your sporting niche and get fit whilst having fun.
Cycling
The
South Downs is a beautiful location to get outside in the open air on your
bike. There are some excellent cycling routes leading up to Devil’s Dyke for a
challenging, exhilarating ride, or if you prefer an easier route your best bet
is to head along Brighton seafront along the vast stretch of flat ground
complete with a full cycle track, or to practice for a race there are a variety
of cycle tracks in parks.
Swimming
If
you don’t fancy braving the sea off the coast of East Sussex, there are some
good pools around for you to practice your strokes and perfect your diving
technique. Lewes Leisure Centre has a fantastic 25m pool for lengths, with
other well-equipped swimming pools in places such as Eastbourne, Bexhill and
Brighton.
Gyms
For
anyone preferring a more formal workout, East Sussex has many gyms with all the
latest equipment for you to maximise the benefit of your exercise regime.
Whether it’s a machine-based workout, a high-intensity fitness class or a
session with a personal trainer you want, you’ll be able to find it in one of
the East Sussex gyms. You might opt for a cardio workout
on the exercise bikes or cross trainers or some strength training with the free
weights ; either way, you can have a go at everything in one room.
Walking
Walking
is one of the safest ways to lose weight and stay active. Just 30 minutes of
walking a day can lead to massive health improvements, and fortunately, the
stunning East Sussex environment makes it very easy to get motivated to go for
a walk. Head to the beach or out into the countryside for a ramble, and you
should soon notice your body feeling and looking better than normal. Even if a
formal walk isn’t your thing, head to Brighton’s town centre for a walk around
the shops. Carrying heavy bags and walking over the uneven cobbles of the North
Laine will provide you with a good workout without you even noticing you’re
exercising.
